Bougainvillea is a popular ornamental plant cultivated in many parts of the world. It originated from South America, where it was found by a French explorer Louis De Bougainville in the 18th century.
This plant has a beautiful inflorescence which comprises of the colourful bracts that can be purple, white or red, among others. The flower has no petals, but a tubular calyx surrounded by the bracts. It is quite easy to maintain especially in the tropics since it requires a lot of sunlight and well drained soil.
